Gloved hand holds a honeycomb full of bees in a lush green field. Red gloves and honeycomb contrast with the vibrant grass below.

We have honey extractors available to loan to CBA members.

Connecticut Beekeepers Association's Honey Extractor Loan Program offers honey extractors that members can borrow at no cost. Each extractor kit includes an uncapping tank, hot knife, filters, and a refractometer. Thanks to member volunteers who host the equipment, we place the extractors in locations that are convenient and accessible to as many members as possible.

How does the Program Work?

Loan Periods and Process

Extractor Loans are available to CBA Members on a first-come, first served basis. All loan periods are three days, maximum. Use the online scheduling tool to reserve the location and date that is convenient for you.

Cash Deposit, Refund Requirements, and Damages

A $25 refundable cash deposit is due when you pick up the equipment, and will be returned to you when you drop off the equipment, as long as it is A: spotlessly clean, and B: in the same working condition as it was upon pickup. If there is significant damage to the equipment, you may be charged for repair or replacement costs.

Communication and Coordination with Hosts

Upon booking your pickup date, you will receive the host’s contact information and they will receive yours, so you can coordinate specific pickup and drop-off times if necessary.

Loading & Unloading Equipment

Be prepared to lift 40 lbs. by yourself or bring assistance. Some hosts may be able to help load and unload the equipment, but not all hosts will be available to do so. Do not count on hosts for assistance in loading equipment.

Pickup and Drop-off Times

Choose a pickup date and time from the calendar when scheduling. Drop-off is set for 7 PM ET on the third day of your loan, but can be adjusted if arranged with your host. During peak season, equipment is often booked back-to-back, so timely return is essential.

Connecticut Beekeepers Association promotes and supports all beekeepers and their local organizations. Our goal is to provide a common forum for the beekeepers of Connecticut to come together to share information and ideas.
