Early Summer Hive Inspection
This inspection will look for Small Hive Beetles and evaluated the queen & hive populations. We’ll do an alcohol wash for varroa and check honey stores.

Event Details
During this inspection, we will look for Small Hive Beetles while we evaluate the queen and hive populations. We will do an alcohol wash for varroa and check on the progress of honey stores.
Swarm season is still in force, so we will identify swarm signs and demonstrate management techniques.
Participant preparation:
- Be able to identify a Small Hive Beetle.
- Research what a healthy colony should look like at this time of year.
- Be able to identify capped honey.
- Research what a queen cell looks like.
Led by Bill Hesbach, CBA President
Bill is an Eastern Apicultural Society Certified Master Beekeeper, graduate of the University of Montana's master beekeeping program, and president of the Connecticut Beekeepers Association. He teaches bee biology and various beekeeping methods, and appears as a guest speaker at local and regional beekeeping seminars. Bill has been published in Bee Culture, Bee Craft, and The American Bee Journal, and was presented the Distinguished Speaker Award at the 2019 EAS conference. Special interests include bee biology and flight, and the connection between local flora and bee behavior.
