Sticky Boards

Video: Economic Reuse of a Sticky Board

It's a great time of year to place a sticky board under your colony to get a feel for the varroa population.

Sticky boards have diagnostic limits and are less accurate than an alcohol wash but they can be very helpful. One disadvantage is their cost, so I've put together a video with instructions on how to reuse them with the application of Vaseline. Sticky boards are easy to use and interpret and are best used as an indication of the presence of mites, but not the population. I urge each of you to consider using them.

In addition, I’ve included a literature review on how to get the most information you can from a 72-hour sticky board drop.
